The position of Vice President for Research and Graduate and Studies was created in 1965. It became part of the responsibilities of the Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1969-70 and was eliminated in 1978. The first Long Range Planning Committee for the System was appointed in January 1967 by President Weaver with Raymond Peck as the chairman. A.H. Emmons was the Director of the Research Reactor 1960-70 at Um. He assisted in the design of the Phoenix Memorial Lab and Ford Nuclear Reactor, University Michigan (1955-60), as well as the Missouri University Research Reactor at UMC.
